Organizing Workshops

Create a Network Training Event

  Update a Network Training Event

  CREATING/UPDATING:
If you have a network training event that you would like to announce, or one that has taken place, you can create an entry for your event in our database. We are looking for items that are training-related, such as workshops, tutorials, lectures, etc. Once you create an entry, then others can upload materials associated with the event. Your entry can be updated as well, but only by the account that originally created the record on this site. If you see an error with an entry, or have an issue, please contact admin@ws.edu.isoc.org for help.

Hosting a Workshop
  HOSTING:
If you are interested in having your workshop web site hosted on this server contact the site administrator by sending email to admin@ws.edu.isoc.org. Multiple workshops have already been hosted on this site. You can see a list of hosted workshops here.

Create a Wiki
  WIKIS:
If you wish to request a wiki to be used for planning purposes for a network event we can host a wiki for you. You can request a new wiki here, and you can view a list of currently hosted wikis. We use the Oddmuse wiki engine for our locally hosted wiki sites.

Use/Request a Blog
  BLOGS:
You can use our on-line sample blog for workshop organization, peer review of matierals, etc. You can either log in as user "Guest" (note the capital "G") and password "guest" to edit the blog, or you can request your own blog for your network event. To request a network-event planning blog send email to admin@ws.edu.isoc.org with the name of the blog you would like, your name and position as it relates to the network event in question, and a link to the event. A personalized blog will be created for you shortly.

Create a Trac Project
  TRAC PROJECTS:
If you wish to request a Trac project to be used for planning purposes for a network event we can host the project for you. You can request a new Trac project here, and you can view a list of currently hosted Trac projects. Trac is a minimalistic approach to web-based management of software projects. Its goal is to simplify effective tracking and handling of software issues, enhancements and overall progress. Planning for network events, and tracking them as they take place can be done using Trac.

Create a Calendar*
  CALENDAR CREATION:
While planning a workshop having a central calendar that everyone involved in the planning process can use can be very helpful. We have licensed the Webcalng online calendar software so that you can create a calendar, assign access to this calendar for other users, create calender userids that are not part of the ISOC Workshop web site, and then collaborate remotely using this tool.

Join the Organizers Mailing List

Create Your Own Event Mailing List

  MAILING LISTS:
While preparing a workshop it can be invaluable to have a place to discuss the day-to-day organization of the event. You can do this by establishing a discussion group around an upcoming workshop. In addition, you can announce this discussion group and and workshop-related items by creating a mailing list for the event. You may find that this mailing list can be an invaluable tool for your workshop attendees as well once the workshop is over.
