Reverse ARP - RARP

• For host machines that don't know their IP address – e.g diskless systems

• RARP enables them to request their IP address from the gateway's ARP cache

• Need an RARP server

• See RFC 903

• NOTE: This is not used much nowadays

  • DHCP does same function
