First, this is what worked at APRICOT Feb08.
Then, equipment requirements. This came out of discussions with CiscoPhil on the APRICOT experiences:
> You're using a 7200VXR at Apricot, which is more than what we > typically get at AfNOG. 15% CPU for about 10k simultaneous active translations, 30k will give about 50% CPU. Scale accordingly for lesser boxes. That VXR was the 1M pps variety. So a vanilla 2611 at 15kpps will do about 1k simultaneous at 90% CPU (at a guess). So if you can get something beefier, in the 100kpps class, we should be fine as we'll be able to do about 6k simultaneous translations at 90% CPU (and this represents about 60 simultaneous users). > I don't want to use the kit routers > as border routers so I'll need to ask Belhaj to see what he > can come up with (or what we can steal from Steve), > but it helps to know what hardware we'd need, and whether we > can make a typical 2600/3600 work. It will work. NAT-PT has been in IOS for at least 8 years now, if not longer, so it will be on pretty much everything built since then. > So, what box would I need? See what is offered, and I'll check. But aim for at least 2800, 3700, 3800 series or higher. Old 7200 with NPE150 or NPE200 will do - newer will be faster. At a push a 4700 or 3640 will do.
